Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City could not be separated after playing to a goalless draw at a sold out Athlone Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

DStv Premiership

Result: Cape Town City 0-0 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 30 March 2024

Venue: Athlone Stadium

Chiefs were without two key players, Edson Castillo and Yusuf Maart due to suspensions, as they made five changes that included rare starts for Wandile Duba, Siyethemba Sithebe and Mduduzi Shabalala, alongside recalls for Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Edmilson Dove.

Amakhosi were quick off the blocks as Duba had a big chance within the first six minutes after going through on goal but he side-footed his volley over the crossbar.

City were fired up as moments later Darwin Gonzalez almost opened the scoring with a cracking shot in the box that came off the upright.

The Citizens gained momentum and debutant Aprocius Petrus came close to breaking the deadlock on the half-hour mark with a powerful looping shot from range that brought the best out of goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma.

Cavin Johnson's charges struggled to get out of their own half, as they looked to attack on transitions and they had good turnovers to hurt City but their decision-making let them down and the first stanza ended without goals.

Chiefs came to life a few minutes from the break as Duba came close to breaking the deadlock with a low shot across goal that missed the bottom corner narrowly wide.

However, Amakhosi could not maintain their quick start as the game lacked rhythm and after whistles from the crowd for Johnson to make changes and after resisting, on 73 minutes he was forced to make a change as Duba went down injured and surprisingly he brought on defender Dillan Solomons in his place in a tactical switch.

Johnson only made attacking changes in the dying minutes as Ranga Chivaviro and Christian Saile both replaced Ashley Du and Pule Mmodi.

However, the Glamour Boys were scrambling balls to go forward and neither side threatened in the last third as they shared the spoils.
