A decision has officially been made on Paul Pogba's ban from football after he tested positive for an illegal substance.

The 30-year-old has been handed a four-year ban from the sport by an anti-doping prosecutor's office in Italy.

The midfielder tested positive for testosterone in August last year following a Serie A match between the Bianconeri and Udinese, in which he was an unused substitute.

Offered a plea deal, Pogba's lawyers instead opted to challenge the initial ruling hoping to get the player a lighter sentence, claiming he had unknowingly ingested the banned substance.

However, prosecutors did not believe the former Manchester United man's argument, and have now punished him with a lengthy ban that could spell the end of his career at the highest level.

The Frenchman will be 34 years old when he is free to play again, with fitness issues and his poor injury record in recent years having disrupted his career.

Pogba has a deal at Juventus until 2026, though it appears likely his relationship with the Italian giants will end sooner.
