Brazil's all-time top goalscorer has played more games with the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner than anybody else in his career following their stints together in Catalonia and Paris.
The pair have now left Europe, with the Mogi das Cruzes native being Al Hilal's newest talisman in Saudi Arabia, although he suffered a long-term injury soon after joining.
Messi, on the other hand, departed the Parc des Princes to ply his trade in Major League Soccer with Inter Miami.
Since making the move to the Herons, several of his former Barca teammates, namely Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, have joined him at the David Beckham-co-owned club.
Speaking recently to ESPN Argentina, Neymar revealed that he, too, would like to play with the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner one last time before the end of his career.
"Hopefully we can play together again. Leo is a great person, everyone knows him in football and I think he is very happy and if he is happy, I am too."
The 32-year-old has combined with the Rosario native for more goals than anybody else in his career (67 strikes), and a reunion with Messi is something football fans would likely love to see.
The skilful winger has indicated in the past that he would, at least for one season, like to play in the US, so perhaps a link-up with his fellow South American may well be on the cards.

"I don't know. I have some doubts about that. I don't know if I'll play in Brazil again. I'd love to play in the US, actually. I'd love to play there at least for a season," the world most expensive player ever told Fenomenos podcast.
