For the first time since the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Bondy native has gone two successive matches for Les Bleus without being involved in a goal as he failed to find the back of the net or provide an assist against Germany and Chile.
France's captain is enjoying another prolific campaign with his club Paris Saint-Germain, having scored 38 goals in all competitions for Les Parisiens in 2023/24, but that form did not translate during the recent international break.
As a result, the 25-year-old has garnered some strong criticism from members of the media in his home country.
RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo said of his latest performances: "In the French team, it doesn't happen that he isn't motivated two games in a row.
"He's there, he goes through the match like a ghost, it's not normal, it's even embarrassing, he can't do that. If he comes to the France team, it's to play, especially if it's from the 1st to the 90th, he has no right to be a ghost, not him.
"He is captain, he must perform well. In these cases, he can ask to play a match in two or he can play both matches but he is bad in both matches.
"I don't like it at all, these two matches are not good. He missed everything.
