France's head coach has given a brutal explanation as to why an Arsenal star is unlikely to break into his starting XI despite his performances at club level.

Since returning from his loan stint with Olympique de Marseille, William Saliba has been an undisputed starter for Mikel Arteta's Gunners side.

The centre-back was an integral part of the north Londoners charge for the Premier League title last season, even earning himself a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

However, while the Paris native may be considered to be one of the English top division's best players, this sentiment has, so far not translated to his national team endeavours.

The Saint-Etienne academy graduate has made only 12 appearances for Les Bleus' senior side, with more than half coming from the bench.

He is expected to get a run-out again against Chile in their upcoming international friendly, but 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning boss Didier Deschamps does not see him being an ever-present in his starting XI any time soon.

"He is having a good season, but he also does things that I don’t like so much," the ex-Juventus boss said, as per Get French Football News.

"For France, he has limited game time, but when he plays, that hasn’t necessarily gone well. The hierarchy doesn't favour him at the moment, but he is here.

"Dayot Upamecano has had game time and perhaps William has had less. With certain players, I make sure to persevere, because it can be confidence or little blockages that can shift.

"Some don't have any concerns, some need game time. William has had less game time, so that doesn't allow him to be very calm."
