Let's take a closer look...

Artist pays homage to Manning Rangers

Manning Rangers were the first winners of the newly-formed PSL at the end of the 1996-97 season, winning it comfortably by a margin of eight points, seeing off a late challenge from Orlando Pirates in second place.

Their achievement shocked South African football, with coach Gordon Igesund, and skipper Mark Davies, George Koumantarakis, Solo Ndimande, Clinton Larson, Keryn Jordan, and Innocent Chikoya among others in their ranks.

The Manning Rangers-inspired football kit pays homage to the legendary South African Football Club from Durban, Manning Rangers, and was manufactured by Cape Town-based football kit manufacturers, Vecchio.

This kit will be worn at the fourth Exhibition Match this weekend when the Cape Town Art Fair draws close and the kit designer, Grecia, chose to pay homage to the Mighty Maulers' Home kit, to honour their storied history in SA club football.

"Grecia views this kit as a canvas to narrate the stories of his family and their communities. These narratives are deeply personal and resonate with themes of resilience, equality, and the struggle against oppression. For him, this kit embodies more than just a throwback jersey; it symbolizes the realization of a dream, a generation later, by the descendants of the dreamers. It is a tribute to their unwavering spirit and a celebration of their enduring legacy," wrote Exhibition Match on an IG post.

Grecia grew up in Durban during the Maulers' peak in the 90's and football, as well as the club, have a special place in his family's heart. His uncle Deena was scouted by Manning Rangers during that period.

"This is the club my Uncle was approached by. A stalwart of Durban football, represented by legends like GR Naidoo, Selvenathan Reddy, Sugar Singh, and Pravesh Mothee Ram," revealed the artist.

"This kit transcends boundaries, blending artistry with athleticism in a seamless fusion of culture and sport," stats Exhibition Match on IG, with the kit priced at R700 for the nostalgic public.
