Cape Town City made headlines before the start of the current Absa Premiership campaign by announcing Bafana's all-time top goalscorer Benni McCarthy as their new head coach.
He did not disappoint as his team hit the ground running with a string of victories that included three consecutive triumphs against defending champions Bidvest Wits.
He showed his quality by consistently being able to outsmart one of the country's best tacticians in Gavin Hunt and people were already wondering just how much further he could improve Cape Town City.
Now having lost three games in a row including the final of the MTN 8 and being knocked out in the first round of the Telkom Knock out, the question is, has the level of the Absa Premiership eventually caught up with him? Is he failing to handle the pressure of having to deliver all season long? Are the cracks beginning to show already?
Going into the game against Kaizer Chiefs, City was arguably the favourites and rightfully so based on form and the previous season. That is just testament to how far the one-year-old club has come.
There is no doubt, however, that Benni is a quality coach and with the likes of Teko Modise, Lehlohonolo Majoro, Victor Obinna and Ayanda Patosi, the club has the ability to turn things around and challenge for the title again this season.
Benni faces an uphill battle in ensuring that his Cape Town City honeymoon isn't over just yet.
