This week we hear from Soccer Laduma Supporters Club Committee Member Justice ‘Skhalazo’ Mohlala on the TKO final and also on the first half of the ABSA Premiership.

Good day, fellow football fanatics

On the Telkom Knockout final

The Telkom Knockout final was a dull affair – no offence to the teams that played the final, Bidvest Wits and Bloemfontein Celtic. It was boring and the crowd also didn’t help the cause. I think the PSL should’ve taken the final to Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga. In Durban, people watch football every weekend because they have three PSL teams in Maritzburg United, Golden Arrows and AmaZulu. There’s also Kaizer Chiefs, who sometimes play their home games there. Meanwhile, the people in Mpumalanga don’t have a team in the elite league and would’ve filled the stadium because they are hungry for football. Congratulations to Wits for winning the trophy. They deserve it and surely, this is the boost they needed for them to turn their season around. All that is left for them is to fight for a Top Eight spot because they cannot win the league this season. I know miracles do happen in football, but even asking for it in their situation is impossible.

On Absa Premiership

The Absa Premiership is not exciting this season. There are way too many draws. Take a look at the league table. Baroka FC was leading with 19 points after 12 games, while in the NFD, Highlands Park are leading with 29 points after 14 games. This just shows that there have been a lot of draws this season in the PSL. I can guarantee you now, whoever gets to 58 points will win the league this season. We have been subjected to draws and it’s somewhat irritating now having to pay for transport, accommodation and a ticket, only to watch a dull 0-0 draw. Our teams must pull up their socks.

Parting message

I’m probably writing my last column for this year (2017) and I would like to first thank all of you who always take time to read my contributions. I want to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in 2018. Those who will be travelling from different provinces to be with their loved ones, please travel safely. Do not drink and drive and please do not speed on the roads. All I want to see is all of us together taking football to new heights in 2018.

Cheers,
Skhalazo
