On the Telkom Knockout final
Well, this final between Bidvest Wits and Bloemfontein Celtic is going to be one to remember. It’s got all the ingredients of becoming one of the best finals we’ve ever seen since the PSL’s inception. It’s very difficult to predict the winner for this one. Both teams are hungry for success and whoever has done his homework better between the two coaches will be crowned champions at the end of the game. I just want to wish both teams all the best of luck. May the best team win!
On the CAF Confederation Cup final
I’m very proud of SuperSport United, even though they didn’t win the trophy. They worked very hard throughout the competition. What I think worked for TP Mazembe is that they know Lucas Moripe Stadium well, having trained there for a week when they played Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Super Cup. Matsatsantsa a Pitori really fought hard… just that luck was not on their side on the night. They deserve a round of applause for their efforts if one takes into account the fact that they are not counted amongst the big three teams in South African football. Hard luck for not winning it, but well done for representing Mzansi with pride and dignity, Matsatsantsa.
On PSL teams’ inconsistency
Eish, the PSL teams are really not consistent. I don’t know whether it’s got something to do with the confidence of players or not. One other factor, though, especially for big teams is that they tend to undermine the so-called small teams and think that their team’s name will win the games for them. For as long as they still do that, we’ll be subjected to mediocrity. The PSL is the best-paying league in the continent, but when you watch the games, you ask yourself, ‘What are these players getting paid for?’ The lacklustre performances seem to be the order of the day recently from all the teams. I just hope that our players realise that the spectators pay money to watch them play. They must start taking their careers seriously.
Message to supporters
To the supporters, I would like to say, let us rally behind our teams. Let us fill up the stadiums and sing for our players. We must always remember that we are the motivation to our teams. We can all learn a thing or two from Bloemfontein Celtic supporters. Those people sing from the first to the final whistle, irrespective of whether the results go their way or not.
