This week, we hear from Soccer Laduma Supporters Club Committee Member Fefe Sonti.Good day, football family

On Bafana Bafana’s loss to Senegal
Well, we didn’t lose because we were bad, it’s just that luck was not on our side on the day. I am still very upset with FIFA for instructing CAF to replay that game though. How many times have we seen such a thing happening? Why was it that when it involved South Africa, FIFA ordered a replay? This was the first-ever CAF game to be replayed due to bad officiating by the referee. We shouldn’t have allowed this to happen. Going back to the game, we had numerous chances, but we couldn’t convert them into goals. Hard luck to our coach and the boys, they gave their all. They fought hard. But in future, we shouldn’t agree to replay a game that we won. I want to urge fellow football fans not to lose hope in Bafana, but continue to give them support.

On Caster Semenya winning Sport Star of the Year
Caster has given a lot of hopeless women hope through her heroics, so congratulations to her. This is an accolade well deserved. As African women, we’re very proud of her. She has been consistent in winning these medals for the country.

On SuperSport United playing the final of the CAF Confederation Cup
Good luck to Matsatsantsa a Pitori. They’ve been doing very well in this continental competition and are now only two games away from clinching the trophy. I have confidence in them and I know that they’ll win it and make us proud. They have a formidable team, with loads of experience. Players like Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Morgan Gould, Ronwen Williams, Tefu Mashamaite and Onismor Bhasera are all familiar with playing in these African competitions with their national teams and hopefully their experience will come in handy. Good luck once again to Matsatsantsa! They must know that the whole nation is behind them.

On supporters
To supporters of all teams, we must always support our teams and please let us do so respectfully. This coming weekend, we have Telkom Knockout semi-finals and everybody is looking forward to watching local football again after a long FIFA break. The Bidvest Wits versus Kaizer Chiefs game is a sold-out affair, so if you didn’t buy your ticket, please watch the game on television. Do not bother coming anywhere near the stadium. Let us please behave and consider our and others’ safety.

Cheers,
Mama Fefe Sonti
