Manchester United could reportedly be set to sign a FIFA World Cup winner in a major swap deal.

Despite being unbeaten since the beginning of 2024, the Red Devils have conceded 33 goals in 24 league games this season, and the club is now said to looking at bringing in a reinforcement in the form of Inter Milan's Benjamin Pavard.

According to various Italian outlets, per the Mirror, United are poised to reignite their pursuit of the 27-year-old in the next transfer window, with centre-back Victor Lindelof possibly being used as leverage to try and sway the Serie A side to agree to the deal.

The Red Devils are believed to have activated the option to extend the Swede's contract until 2025. However, that decision is said to have been made with the aim of not letting him leave the club on the cheap or as a free agent.

It is further claimed that United are intent on selling Lindelof at the end of the season, with a host of Saudi Pro League clubs believed to be interested in purchasing him.

Pavard, a 2018 World Cup winner with France, was linked with a move to Old Trafford before joining the Nerazzurri in August last year, and the Manchester giants are said to have maintained their interest in the defender as another attempt to secure his services could potentially be on the cards.

The 20-time Premier League winners have struggled with maintaining a consistent back four due to injuries to key players this season, including Lisandro Martinez.

Just weeks after returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the Argentine was ruled out once again after sustaining a knee injury during United's 3-0 win over West Ham United on 4 February that is set to keep him out until April.
