A club boss has now boldly confirmed that his team is trying to sign Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi.

With the Argentine's contract in France set to expire at the end of this season, a number of clubs are vying for his signature.

Most recently, Barcelona reportedly entered the fray after their club president sat down for a meeting with Messi's father, who also acts as his agent.

Prior to the LaLiga club's interest, it was said that Inter Miami and Al Hilal were ready to offer lucrative deals to the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner in order to prise him away from the Parc des Princes.

PSG remain keen to keep the forward beyond this season, but the French giants are facing some stiff competition for his signature, while the player himself is yet to give any indication that he intends to sign an extension.

However, Inter Miami boss Phil Neville has now revealed that his club are interested in not one but two World Cup winners, including Messi.

"I'm not going to deny [it and say] there isn't truth in the speculation that we're interested in Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets," Neville told The Times.

"We want to bring the best players in the world to this football club.

"Messi and Busquets are the two that stand out more in recent years.

"They're great players who would still be a massive benefit to this organisation.

"For MLS, it would be a game-changer.

"Since I joined Miami, I think we've been linked with every single top player in world football.

"From Sergio Ramos, Dani Alves, Robert Lewandowski, Willian, Cesc Fabregas, Luis Suarez... all of them you can rattle off.

"We're always going to be linked with the best players in the world.

"We had Gonzalo Higuaín and Blaise Matuidi. Now we've got the opportunity to bring in some new designated players [who fall outside the league's salary cap] following their retirements."
