Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has reportedly declined a managerial offer from a UEFA Champions League club a little less than a month after he was relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge.

The ex-Blues head coach was abruptly sacked on 7 September following the team's 1-0 defeat to Croatian outfit Dinamo Zagreb in their opening game of the 2022/23 UCL campaign.

It was later revealed by club co-owner Todd Boehly that the German's dismissal was not a knee-jerk reaction to the defeat against the minnows of their UCL group, but rather due to the owners not seeing eye to eye with the coach on the direction in which the club should head.

The former Paris Saint-Germain boss was swiftly replaced by ex-Brighton & Hove Albion tactician Graham Potter, who penned a five-year deal with the west Londoners.

Now, according to Spanish newspaper Diario AS, Tuchel has turned down the chance to make a quick return to the dugout, having rejected an offer to take charge of Bayer Leverkusen.

It is claimed that, although Gerardo Seoane is still in charge of the Bundesliga side, the German club was looking to persuade the 2020/21 Champions League-winning manager to take the reins as they are languishing second from the bottom of the league table with just one win in eight matches this season.

Tuchel has top-flight pedigree in his home country, having previously managed Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, with whom he won the 2016/17 German Cup.

It is believed that Leverkusen have since targeted former Liverpool and Bayern Munich star Xabi Alonso to become their next manager.
