With Liverpool having got off to an underwhelming start to the 2022/23 season, it has been claimed the Merseyside club made their "biggest mistake ever" in letting Senegal international Sadio Mane leave in the latest transfer window.

The Reds find themselves languishing in ninth position on the Premier League table with just two wins in seven matches so far, leaving them 11 points adrift of log leaders Arsenal, albeit with a game in hand.

With their new big-money striker Darwin Nunez yet to hit his stride since his €75 million (R1.3 billion) move from Benfica in July, Mane's departure has often been brought up as one of the factors in the Anfield outfit's poor start to the campaign.

Now, ex-Premier League star Jermaine Jenas has insisted that letting Mane leave for the Bundesliga was a huge error on the Merseysiders part.

"And they [Liverpool] got themselves into a bit of a pickle from a contractual point of view. I just think their business has just knocked them for six a little bit.

"Darwin Nunez is not working. Midfield, how they didn't highlight the midfield knowing the injuries that they've had consistently for years, how they've not highlighted that and got some youth in there...
