After being cleared of multiple rape charges recently, Benjamin Mendy has now left Manchester City to join another club in Europe.
FC Lorient has officially announced the signing of the French fullback as a free agent.

A statement on the club's official website read: "FC Lorient is pleased to announce today the signing for two seasons of French international left-back Benjamin Mendy (29).
"After having satisfied the traditional medical examination, Benjamin Mendy, world champion 2018, quadruple winner of the Premier League under the colors of Manchester City and French champion of Ligue 1 with Monaco in particular, comes to reinforce the Lorient workforce for this new season.
"The native of Longjumeau, who will wear number 5 with the Merlus, will take his first steps at Espace FCL today. Welcome Benjamin!"
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner joined the reigning Premier League champions in 2017 from AS Monaco in a deal worth €57.5 million (R1.1 billion), and went on to make 75 appearances for the club before being suspended due to rape allegations, with his last appearance for the Citizens coming in August 2021 in a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
The left-back was charged with several counts of rape and sexual assault upon his initial arrest and after more complaints were put forward, the player subsequently stood trial in 2022, where he pleaded not guilty.

In September last year, he was found not guilty of one count of rape and then in January 2023, he was found not guilty of six other counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
Last week, all charges were dismissed as he was found not guilty of the crimes he was accused of.
