A player coached by Pitso Mosimane during his reign at Al Ahly has now made the staggering claim that he suffered "psychologically" under the South African tactician.

Hossam Hassan, who spent the 2022/23 campaign out on loan at Smouha from the Club of the Century, appears to have blamed the now-Al Wahda manager for his initial struggles with the Egyptian giants.

The striker joined Ahly in September 2021 from Smouha in a deal worth €983 000 (R19.7 million), but would make just 14 appearances under Mosimane, who eventually parted ways with the Red Devils in June 2022.

Last season, the forward returned to his previous club on loan after failing to impress current manager Marcel Koller too, playing just six games under the Swiss tactician.

However, still harbouring ambitions to succeed at Ahly, Hassan has now revealed that it was Mosimane's reign that affected him the most

"It's a great honour to play for Al Ahly. It was a lifelong dream of mine to join either Al Ahly or Zamalek, which I achieved when I moved to Al Ahly," the 29-year-old said, per KingFut.

"I had a great ambition that I wanted to achieve with Al Ahly, but things didn't go well.

"With Pitso Mosimane, I was psychologically affected.

"I used to participate in the last minute of every match, and I entered the Pharco match in the last second, and I was almost in tears.

"He used to say in press conferences that the team lacked a striker and then he excludes me from the squad.

"I know that my level is much better than that, so I decided to go out on loan to play, shine, and come back to Al Ahly again, as I don't like to be in the role of an employee.

"I started the pre-season with Koller, who is an exceptional coach and laid the right foundation for the team. The coach's personality is what positively influenced the team this season.

"I want to return to Al Ahly next season to prove to the fans that I am a distinguished player, but no one has spoken to me yet. I believe I can be the league's top goalscorer next season with them."
