CAF is now reportedly considering making a major change to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.

The organisation's president, Dr Patrice Motsepe, has revealed that they are considering allowing players plying their trade outside of their own countries but still in Africa to participate in the tournament for their nations.

The competition, labelled by CAF as "uniquely African", currently features only players who are playing in their home country's domestic leagues.

"Only players with permanent contract registered in a local club affiliated to their national association are eligible to participate in the Africa Nations Championship," reads article 38.2 of the tournament's regulations.

However, according to Motsepe, a change to this rule may be on the cards.

"We will study this point in the Executive Committee," he said, per Africa Top Sports

"This must be an evolution for CHAN.

"The most important thing is that African players be recognised and take part in the competition.

"You may be an Algerian player, play in a club in Egypt, and represent your country at CHAN."

Motsepe is also said to have reiterated that Kenya will be the competition's host in 2024.
