Teams in Saudi Arabia have not been afraid to break the bank to land some of the most high-profile players in the game, and a significant portion of Africa's highest-paid stars seem to be profiting from their quest to be recognised among the world's best.

The two highest-earning players from the continent today have certainly achieved tremendous success during their careers thus far: Riyad Mahrez and Sadio Mane.
The Algerian winger joined Saudi Pro League (SPL) side Al Ahli in July 2023 after winning an iconic treble with Manchester City, and has made quite the impression since switching clubs.
The 33-year-old has amassed 10 goals and nine assists in 23 appearances so far this season, and according to Business Day Nigeria, who cited data from Capology, he is the highest-paid African player in the world, raking in £45 million (R1 billion) annually on his deal in Saudi.
In second place is former Liverpool star Mane. The Senegal talisman is said to be earning an annual salary of £34 million (R821 million) at Al Nassr, who are currently second on the SPL table, nine points behind leaders Al Hilal.

While his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo leads the 2023/24 goalscoring chart after finding the back of the net on 22 occasions so far, the two-time African Player of the Year has also contributed handsomely with nine goals and four assists in 21 games.
Occupying third position on the list is another star now plying his trade in the Gulf state, former Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly. The centre-back is believed to command an annual salary of £30 million (R724 million) at Al Hilal.
The 32-year-old, who won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations along with Mane, has played an important role in helping Hilal go undefeated in their league campaign thus far, with the Blue Wave having dropped points on just two occasions to date in this campaign.
Other stars among Africa's highest earners globally include Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Paris Saint-Germain's Achraf Hakimi. The Egypt international is believed to be earning £18.2 million (R439 million) on an annual basis at Anfield, while the Moroccan reportedly earns £12.4 million (R 299 million) yearly in Paris.
