Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City shared the spoils in a fast-paced DStv Premiership clash on Saturday afternoon.

Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Siyethemba Sithebe started in place of the suspended Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo while Wandile Duba, Mduduzi Shabalala came in for the visitors. For City, Namibian Aprocious Petrus made his debut for the club in the middle of the park.

Duba had a glorious chance for Chiefs on eight minutes when he made a run in-behind to meet a ball over the top, but the youngster side-footed way over the top from close proximity.

The missed opportunity was almost punished a few minutes later after Gonzalez stormed out from the left to get space from a tight angle and fired a thumping shot that nestled the upright.

Chiefs came inches close again a little to the midway point from a first-time strike by Sithebe following a corner-kick, but City goalkeeper Darren Keet had no problems smothering.

It remained action-packed past the half-hour mark and a stupendous save from Bruce Bvuma palmed Petrus’ long-range drive behind for a corner.

The Amakhosi made a dramatic start to the second period as Duba stormed in the area after bursting down the right but in the end fired narrowly wide of the bottom corner.

Chiefs continued to have the better of the opening spell in the resumption and had Ashley Du Preez charge in following a ball through the channels, but Keet rushed out to narrow the angle.

Within the final quarter, the Amakhosi introduced former City man Mduduzi Mdantsane and sacrificed Shabalala in a desperate pursuit to the opener.

The Amakhosi kept battling before the end, with the Citizens on the back-foot though failed to get the all-important breakthrough and settled for a goalless draw.
