Some of the decisions made by referee Masixole Babiso caused a stir this past weekend.

With yet another week of contentious officiating decisions, SAFA’s refereeing department has confirmed plans to visit clubs and teach them about the laws of the game. This has been met with quite a reaction, here’s a look!

The story

Some questionable have been made by referees through the course of the season, and this past weekend was no different as many felt AmaZulu were hard done by some of decision made by the referees during their 4-2 defeat at the hands of Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.

SAFA have since told KickOff that their officiating department plans on visiting clubs in the top-flight to educate them on the rules.

KickOff readers on Facebook have reacted to those plans.

“Before becoming a coach you should know the rules of the game first,” says Gamuchirai Muchemwa.

“The moment the ‘Authorities’ begin to sugarcoat things rather than completely admitting that things are horrible, you know there's match-fixing going on. What's going on at the moment in our league as far as officiating, ain't a ‘mistake’ nor an ‘error’, it's simply a crime against our professional football. The penalty that was awarded to Orlando Pirates wasn't a mistake, but a crime committed on another team (one of the latest references). It's a shame and absolutely embarrassing,” says R.j. Rams.

“No, no, no they must train their pathetic referees to do a better job and understand the rules of the game. And also to improve their disgusting performance,” says Brian Mc.

“It seems like it’s their referees who need to be trained to understand the rules better,” says Dumolwethu Thobayithathe Mvundlela.

“They should visit their referees,” says Siya Masiya.

“This is too late, they should've done that before the start of the season. Some teams have been benefited from so called mistakes of the officials,” says Masego Ace Mokopakgosi.

“They must start by training their match officials please,” says Gamuchirai Anesu Chipomwe.

“Amazulu were robbed! We all saw it! Dubious penalty, and dubious free kick,” says Fu Hua.

“The statement: we all make mistakes is very much correct but it must be used correctly because all mistakes are costly and should be punished accordingly,” says Sandile Cele Snr.

“They must train their referees and introduce VAR finish and klaar. Visit teams for what exactly,” says MzoXolo Majamani.

“Mistakes that cost clubs revenue, especially in cup games,” says Silindile Makhele.

After their 4-2 win over Usuthu, Bucs boss Jose Riveiro dissected how his side have proven to be better in cup competitions and inconsistent in the league.

“League and Champions league are for teams in the mould of Mamelodi Sundowns. Those are extremely tough competitions. Pirates know how to build up the required momentum to win cup competitions. There are no group stages there. Just knockout. It's their speciality,” says Caz Vukeya.

“The League is a marathon, you need to be consistent,” says Lawrence Kby.

“Cups are meant for Pirates, the league is for the snake fc,” says Abel Ab-Flow.

“Sundowns fans making noise as if they have more CAF finals appearance than Pirates, sit down and enjoy your run. We are building up for CAF next year, we messed up the last one, it happens, but we are cooking something,” says Mogomotsi Proqnosiz.

“Sundowns is praying very hard not to cross roads with us,” says Nyiko Mathebula.

“He is a tournament specialist,” says Malbie Fani.

“They are not league material those ones and they will never be,” says Phelo Tyibilika Lexx.

“Pirates players they are cruising when it comes to cup games,” says Ishmael Mavutani

“Sundowns are aiming at the Nedbank Cup and CAFCL, while DStv Premiership is already in the bag. Afterwards, go take the 1 billion in USA in the breeze of coolness,” says Louis Nama.

"In you we believe, please lead us to the promised land. Up the Bucs,” says Tshepo Mooi.
