The SABC has advised people to beware of the scam asking them to pay money for the fake boot camp.

The SABC has dismissed a poster circulating on social media about a training boot camp for actors as a scam.

The poster has Leleti Kumalo, Katlego Danke, Motlatsi Mafetshe, Kabonina Qubeka and Lindani Nkosi.

According to the poster, interested parties should pay a R500 commitment fee which is said to cover the admission, 6 weeks of training, catering, facilitation of acting manuals, accommodation in Johannesburg and a certificate which will be awarded at the end for the boot camp.

The poster has the SABC emblem and website on it.

SABC’s publicity specialist Caroline Phalakatshela says it is a scam and people should not pay any money.

“The SABC has noted various communications regarding an SABC Bootcamp involving SABC talent on various social media platforms and would like to state that this is scam and that this camp is not affiliated with the SABC in any way. The SABC would like to warn the public and plead with the public not to pay any money to join the boot camp training as this is a scam,” she says.

One of the “facilitators” of the fake boot camp, Kabonina, tells Drum that it is not the first time that people use actors' names to try and defraud people.

“I think now people think it is legit because they see the big SABC branding, and they know the actors used on the poster work on various SABC productions. Someone alerted me to this and unfortunately, I know nothing about this.

“Obviously we are distancing ourselves from this, but for me, more than being cross I am concerned about why someone would do this. It is very saddening that someone would do this to people and take their hard-earned money. We are in the middle of a pandemic and people are struggling, so doing this is like looting from them. Its sad. Kuzoshuba when they get caught,” she says.

Caroline also says another poster about Muvhango holding auditions at Khoroni Hotel on 27 August in Thohoyandou is also a scam.
