Her day ones didn’t realise how much they missed her until they saw her grace a stage again.

Right in the middle of Zakes Bantwini’s headline performance at DSTV Delicious Festival on Saturday, Bucie colourfully came out to sing her all-time hit song, Easy To Love.

Just as everyone was caught by surprise, she brought the house down with her smooth moves.

Straight after the performance, the RnB and house singer had a big smile on her face proving to have also missed the stage.

Speaking to Drum about how she felt being on stage, she says it feels good, despite the lower abdominal pains.

”It’s really not a bad thing, it’s just one of those things that people will never understand because a lot of people were asking ‘why did you just quit?’ At the time, I thought I was quitting but it turns out, I just needed a break. I needed to be a present mom to my children, I needed to be a present wife. I needed a change of everything because now as we’re talking, I’m from stage and I feel physical pain. That’s how much of myself I give to any performance.”

In 2018, Busisiwe Nkomo released that which was announced as her last album called Bucie Rebirth.

The album preceded her official exit in the music space, following her pregnancy with her fourth child.

The songstress rose to fame and musical success with Superman which she worked on with Black Coffee in 2010 and was at her peak in 2014 with Easy To Love in which she featured Heavy K.

About that time, she says, “I was young enough to do it, I had the energy but now when I needed to be present for my kids, I couldn’t give that much of myself, and I needed to save a lot of it for them. I’m a healer, I believe that a lot of people get healed with just seeing me perform and say whatever it is that I’m saying. Love is a spiritual thing and that is what I sing about.”

She adds that being on stage for her is like a spiritual exchange with thousands of people in the crowd and so she gets depleted when she steps off the stage.

Having received the warm reception from the crowd that she did even after the five-year break, the singer tells Drum that she doesn’t take the support lightly.

“If there’s one thing that I know is that it’s not me that they saw, it’s the power of God that is within me that manifests through me. It makes me feel blessed that I am actually chosen and special enough to be able to carry all of that. It’s been five years since I’ve done this, and you wouldn’t expect people to have that acceptance.”

Meanwhile, in the background, Zakes Bantwini’s performance continued with his choir and Skye Wanda.

“I’m convinced to come back mostly because I’m not even doing this for myself, I’m doing it for my daughter. My kids look at me and just see mommy, they need to know who mommy is. Mommy isn’t just mommy. I’m doing it for my children because I want them to grow up knowing that they can be anything and everything they want to be, like there’s no limit. I would want my children to look at me and just be like ‘I know that I can be anything I want to be, I can switch, I don’t necessarily need to be one thing’.”

Although she can’t share with Drum when exactly she will be returning to the music scene, she says “watch the space”.
