He is a big deal on YouTube with 577 000 subscribers.

Mansa Mayne’s content focuses on reviewing songs from across Africa.

In his journey as YouTuber, which he started in 2017, he fell in love with South African artists.

It was through discovering Mzansi artists that the American decided he needed to visit the county.

He has been in South Africa since April 2022 on a visit that he decided to extend after having the time of his life.

“When I arrived, I planned to settle in and network,” he says.

“I had the social media presence, but I wanted the ground presents as well.”

With his love for the new international sound of amapiano, he tried his hand at music and recently released his debut single, Kuzoba Mnandi, which has reached nearly 200 000 views within three days of its release.

Mansa had no intentions of making music, but the more he got to review and react to videos, the more he fell in love with the genre.

“I never really thought about doing music, but I was inspired to do amapiano from reacting and staying here in South Africa.

"I think amapiano is the future. It’s something fresh and new. Hip hop for me has become repetitive,” he tells Drum.

Being in South Africa, Mansa Mayne has fallen in love with the food and great people.

“I’ve enjoyed the support of the people I’ve met, the beautiful country, and the food. There’s nothing I can point out as a dislike at the moment.

“I almost was pickpocketed in Cape Town. But luckily, I didn’t have anything in my pockets at the time,” he adds.

Manza says he has received more love in Africa than back home in the US.

“At first I was not sure but since I dropped this song, so many people back home have messaged me and even reacted to my new track on YouTube.

"So I’m very excited to get so much love from back home in the states,” he says.

“A lot of them are even planning to come here. I think I have started this trend and I think it will only grow from here.”

In the future, he looks forward to collaborating with more South African artists including the likes of Maphorisa, and Kabza De Small. Young Stunna and Nasty C.

“I haven’t worked with anyone specifically as yet but I have a wish list of artists I’d like to work with, such as Costa Titch, Robot Boii, Blxckie, Reece Mandlisa, and Zuma, to name a few.”
