After a four-week trial in his hometown Chicago, singer R Kelly has been convicted of six of the 13 counts of sexual abuse he was facing.

R Kelly, real name Robert Sylvester Kelly (55), has been found guilty of child sexual abuse.

In 2021, the Bump n' Grind singer was convicted of sex trafficking and racketeering in New York and he was later sentenced to 30 years in jail. He was found to have lured underaged girls to have sex with him.

The singer was acquitted of fixing a state trial on child pornography charges in 2008.

Sex abuse allegations against the singer began to surface in the 1990s. Then child pornography tapes started coming out and he stood trial and was convicted in 2021.

The rise of the #MeToo movement and the documentary Surviving R Kelly led to his ultimate downfall as multiple women came forward to share their abuse allegations.

The singer will not be eligible for release until he is 80 years old. However, these new convictions could add years to his sentence.

He had pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against him. But in court it was revealed that his former tour manager bribed an official to get a fake ID in order for him to get married to Aaliyah in 1994 when she was 15 and he was 27.

In 2002, R Kelly was charged with 21 counts of making indecent images of children.

In 2008 the trial was centred around a 30-minute video of Kelly abusing a 14-year-old girl. The victim, known by the pseudonym "Jane", declined to testify in court 14 years ago and jurors ultimately acquitted him on all counts.

Jane, now 37, testified last month that she is the person in the footage.

Kelly abused her hundreds of times before she turned 18 years old, she said.
