She's busy working on her new album. She recently released two singles Ndibize Nam and Fela Emazweni from her upcoming album.

Singer and songwriter Inga Hina (30) is a singing sensation. She is set to release her 10-track album on 3 September 2021 titled Promises To Makhulu.

“Makhulu means grandmother, the album sums up promises I grew up making to mine. Making my grandmother proud has always been at the forefront of my music dream, just days after finishing the album, the title pretty much fell on my lap,” Inga says. Her music is a fusion of several different sounds.

“The sound is Afro-soul, pop and old school R&B. But I also have a feeling it will keep changing but at the core of it, it’s soulful and nostalgic."

This Women’s month Inga celebrates her late grandmother who raised her. “She’s a symbol of a strong black woman who [single-handedly] held her entire family together, her children, grandchildren, and our cousins,” Inga says.

“I didn’t realise just how financially challenged we were, until much later in life. She made the most out of nothing, it felt like we had it all.

"The last project she released was her single Big Bad City in October 2019," she says.

"My music has evolved since then. I have learned to trust what I have to say a little more now. I realise I have a story to tell and there’s someone out there who’s just like me, I’m no longer trying to figure out what I think people would like to hear,” Inga says.

She is inspired by people's everyday stories.

“Friends and family, sometimes a glass of wine and something random a friend would say in passing could transpire to a song. But I often sing about love, loss, fighting for one’s dreams.”

Inga is inspired by artists such as Birdy, Emeli Sande, Lana Del Rey, Ringo, Shekhinah, Simphiwe Dana, Bongeziwe Mabandla, and many others.

“I listen to all types of music and that might be why it’s hard to just find one genre and stick to it, in my music.”

She has been a recording artist since 2013.

“But I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember. I’ve always loved music, and I knew I wanted to sing since when I was 15 or 16. It was never a matter of thinking or realising I’m gifted, I just knew that this is what made me feel alive like I have a place in the world. I grew up with uncles who loved music, I just tapped into that, so I’d say I was self-taught.”

She has collaborated with the likes of Mobi Dixon, DJ SK and DJ Laylo.

“I’d love to collaborate with more singers and songwriters, going forward,” Inga says.

Her goal is to reach ears across the world.

“I have been chasing an album and have not released as much music as I would like to, by now. I have been doing a lot of signwriting and I just want to stop overthinking, and share. After releasing the album, I’m keen on collaborating a bit more.”
