She has been a fan favourite for more than a decade on the SABC 1 drama series Skeem Saam, playing the leading role of Celia Magongwa. 

Actress Shoki Mmola humbly bows out of the role many have grown to love.

In a statement, the production company said she will be dearly missed for her impeccable acting.

“Boasting a whopping 26 years in her television career, Mmola has been playing the character of ‘Celia’ on Skeem Sam for ten years and in that role has been one of the show’s lead actresses, contributing to its accomplishments over the past decade. Always keeping fans entertained, Mmola has portrayed the character of Celia impeccably.”

The statement reads that she will be dearly missed by fellow cast members, crew, and viewers.

“We wish her well and all the best with her future ventures. Mmola will not be featured on the new season starting Monday 4 July 2022.”

Shoki confirmed the news on social media saying it was time for a change.

“As I bow out of Skeem Saam, I bow even lower to everyone that has supported my work over the 28 years of industry and 10 years of Skeem Saam. Her to telling more stories.”

Not wanting to reveal too much, the actress tells Drum that she is already working n a new production.

“I can’t reveal much as yet, but I am an open book. I will share the news with everyone when the time is right,” she says.

“I am just wish again to thank everyone who has grown to love my role on Skeem Saama and appreciate the support.”

Shoki studied drama at the Pretoria Technikon (now Tshwane University of Technology). Her career of 26 years includes roles on Rhythm City, Muvhango, and many others. Not only is she in front of the camera but she also works as a casting director, gender-based violence activist and fashion designer.
