You might know Eva Modika from social media where she made herself a widely popular influencer.

She has been on TV and made news a few months ago when she unveiled her new body after liposuction and brand-spanking new BBL.

Eva is now focusing on her DJ career, and she has been playing the club circuit all around the country.

“I started practising behind the scenes a few years ago. I wanted to master playing and not just come out and be named another regular female DJ who just dances. So, I took my time, for a few years, then in 2023, I officially launched my career,” she says.

It made sense for Eva as she was already getting a lot of work as a club host.

“I was surrounded by DJs, promoters, and artists all the time and at times DJs would not show up for gigs and it made sense to stand in for them.”

The native of Limpopo claims to be versatile and does her best to play everything.

“However, I specialise in Afrotech. People call me to play Afrotech despite me being versatile. So, I can mix a jazz or gospel song with Afro Teck or even amapiano. But my base is Afrotech.”

She has enjoyed bookings at an array of places, but she loved the scene in Cape Town particularly.

“I also love playing at festivals, any type as these allow you to explore, plus the people are free and just really all about enjoying music.”

For Eva, a good set is always important, and this means practising behind the scenes and seeing how the audience reacts to a selection.

“But as a DJ I find that my set changes depending on the crowd, so what I planned might not always go according to plan. That is what makes it exciting for me, the spontaneity of it all. But that comes with experience and practice.”

Manipulating the mood of her audience gives her a rush unlike anything else and she is always amazed by how a song can bring people uncontainable elation.

“I get to make people happy. Music is spiritual. It can shift one's mood, there is a single occasion that doesn't require music. I love making people happy and seeing them dance. But mostly, it puts me in a great mood. I use it to escape some of the challenges of the world.”

This vocation feeds her soul and as it turns out, DJing has also been a remunerative career path.

“Nightlife has become a form of therapy for many people who have stress at home, or work, and going out calms them down.”

The plan is to keep elevating her game and eventually produce her music.

“Once I start releasing music, I will not only live off the bookings but will also generate an income through my productions. This year I plan to release an EP and I am venturing into producing as well and building the business so it can sustain me.”
