The books were so popular that they had a cult-ish following. And now since it has been made into a series, it's gotten even more fans.
Now Showmax's original telenovela, The Wife, is already preparing for season two with the casting of actress and media personality Khanyi Mbau.
Khanyi will be starring in season 2 of The Wife as Zandile, who is the wife of Nkosana (played by Mondli Makhoba), the leader of the Zulu brothers’ family.
Viewers of the show will get to see in action this coming Thursday as she makes a cameo to show what’s to come in season 2, set to be released February 2022.
Executive producer Gugu Ncube-Zuma, who produced eHostela and Ifalakhe, says that having Khanyi Mbau play Zandile will shake things up on the show.
“We'll be exploring Nkosana and Zandile's love story and finding out more about their history. We'll get to know Zandile as the matriarch of the Zulu family, the glue who held the Zulu brothers together. In Season 2, she wants to reclaim her position, a role that uHlomu has now taken over in her absence. Get ready to see the world through Zandile's eyes."

Khanyi says that the greatest challenge of playing Zandile is that people are familiar with the story as it is written by Dudu Busani-Dube on her bestselling novel Zandile The Resolute.
“There’s a cult around this show so there’s a lot of pressure. And before being part of the cast, I am a fan, so I really don’t want to drop the ball. For me to depict this character is really something that can either make me or break me, to be quite honest with you, but I love the thrill,” Khanyi says.
