GOGO Nelly Skhosana was over the moon when her son started to build a big house for the family.

But all that joy vanished when her son was shot dead in a crossfire in 2022, leaving the house half-built.

Nelly (60) said her world was shattered.

But now she and her family are smiling because the house is complete, thanks to the Good Samaritans.

Nelly from Waterval near Siyabuswa in Mpumalanga received her six-room fully furnished house from the ANC deputy chairman in Mpumalanga, Speedy Mashilo, on Sunday, 1 October.

She told Daily Sun that her tears had been wiped although her son was gone.

"I'm happy today that his dream of building a big house has been fulfilled. He worked very hard to change our lives for the better.

"He made sure that we didn't sleep on empty stomachs. The house will always remind me of him. The pain of my son's death has subsided, but I will never forget him. I thank the Good Samaritans who finished the house for us,” she said.

Her daughter, Grace Mahlangu (29), said the house would change their lives.

She said her brother was a vegetable street vendor.

Grace said her slain brother was killed in a crossfire during a supermarket robbery.

"The house honours my late brother. This is what he wanted for the family. We thought it was all over, but God was looking over us. He heard our cries. Our previous house was too small for us. We are a family of nine people," she said.

Good Samaritan Moses Mahlangu of MCC Security and Projects said he was touched by the plight of the family.

"I felt it would be good for us to help the family. This forms part of our ploughing back to the community. It feels good that they will now live under a proper roof," he said.

Mashilo said he discovered the family when he was doing a door-to-door campaign.

"When I arrived at the family home, I found them still mourning, and the son was not yet buried. I realised that some intervention was needed. I made a promise that I'd make sure the house was finished. I'm happy to see the house finished and the family happy. This is something I couldn't ignore," Mashilo said.
