Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesman Prem Balram said Tongaat Operations Centre received multiple calls from the residents reporting the incident.
"Reaction officers were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 2.36pm. Ten cars parked on the side of the road were engulfed in flames," Barlam said.
He said the vehicles belonged to customers of a Park and Fly business. Three other cars were damaged by the heat.
"The road was closed for motorists due to poor visibility," he said.

Tongaat resident Lungy Ngcobo said she was at home the entire day as she couldn't leave the house due to the terrible heat.
"I was worried that people would faint but I didn't think even cars would be affected because of this terrible weather," she said.
Another resident, Njabulo Dube, said he heard that the fire came from a nearby bush, adding that someone started the fire and when it became windy, the blaze spread and engulfed the cars.
"I feel very bad for people whose cars burnt. This was unexpected and it's a disaster," he said.
