NBC News reports that on November 12, Twitter let go of a significant number of contract workers.

News publication Platformer says that about 4,400 to 5,500 workers were affected.

Anonymous full-time employees claim that neither they nor the contractors they were collaborating with were given prior notice about the development.

The contractors who were cut reportedly found out about their work status when they could no longer log into Slack or Twitter's other work systems.

The contractor layoffs come after Musk let go of nearly half of the company's employees since acquiring Twitter on October 28.

He says badge-in records show that over the last year, average office occupancy was less than 10% and peaking at 25%.

Musk also claims that the company spends $13 million (around R223 Million) a year on meal services.

Insider reports that Musk's first address to Twitter employees after acquiring the company warned staff of less perks and 80-hour workweeks
