MOVING with the times, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has launched its long-anticipated free streaming service, called SABC +.
In a statement on Thursday, 17 November, the public broadcaster said the SABC + streaming app would provide the best that the channel could offer, including 19 radio stations and three free-to-air TV channels – SABC1, SABC2 and SABC3.
Viewers would also be guaranteed the SABC Sports Channel and a 24-hour news channel.
Group CEO Madoda Mxakwe said the app will feature a variety of local and international content to educate and entertain the public – everywhere and anytime.
“SABC + signals a new digital era for the corporation, and key accomplishment in addressing universal access for all citizens. The app also presents a growth path to enhancing our value offering to clients and customers to build a strong foundation for future financial sustainability of the SABC,” Mxakwe said.
The state broadcaster also teamed up with Hisense to distribute the app through the Hisense VIDAA Smart TVs and mobile devices in time for the Fifa World Cup Qatar, starting on 20 November.
This innovation will see viewers enjoying all 28 matches and the official Fifa World Cup show daily, for free.
“The SABC is proud to partner with a technology company, such as Hisense, to enable us to fulfil our public mandate while using innovation to provide cutting-edge content to the public.”
