PHILIPPI residents say thugs attack Uber drivers and put lives in danger.
Last week, thugs hijacked an Uber driver in the Cape Town kasi and rammed the car into a concrete fence outside a house in block 8, leaving residents terrified.
Anele Mngwini, who lives near the house where the incident happened, said: “The people doing this are kids, teenagers and those in their early 20s.

“They rob drivers at gunpoint and drive at high speed and damage property.
“If it wasn’t for the concrete wall, they’d have driven into someone’s house last week.”
The thugs fled the scene and the car was later found along Govan Mbeki Road.
When the SunTeam visited the house, the family wasn’t home and the wall was damaged.
Residents who witnessed the incident said they were tired of kids making kasi dangerous.
Mzwandile Tshona said: “You’ll find more than six of them in a car. This is why residents have dug trenches on roads and others have blocked them with rubble.”
Uber spokeswoman Samantha Fuller told Daily Sun she’d need specific information about the incidents before she could comment.
“These incidents could be anyone driving those cars, and without clear information we can’t confirm if this happened on our platform,” she said.

Fuller said Uber had several safety measures in place to protect its drivers and passengers.
Police recently warned drivers to avoid Nyanga and Philippi due to the high number of robberies.
Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi said: “The area is dangerous. This is done by young people aged between 14 and 16 years of age.”
She said a number of young girls were also involved.
