ON the second day of the Zulu Kingship dispute, President Cyril Ramaphosa reaffirmed his decision to appoint King Misuzulu, despite the legal challenge.

Ramaphosa was pointed out as one of the respondents in the case.

The case was brought in court by Prince Simakade, who wants to dethrone his half-brother off the kingship.

Prince Simakade insisted to the court that the selection process of the king had to be properly followed and that he wanted the decision by Ramaphosa to be reviewed and set aside.

Marumo Moerane SC represented Ramaphosa, opposing Prince Simakade's application.

Moerane narrated to the Pretoria North Gauteng High Court in Tshwane that the president was opposing Simakade's application.

Moerane explained that the decision to appoint Misuzulu was made following the Royal Family's valid identification of the king-elect and that there was no dispute before the president.

Ramaphosa’s team also argued that the decision was guided by the judgment of Judge Isaac Madondo, which cleared King Misuzulu of the crown.

On the other hand, in his court papers, Simakade reasoned that Ramaphosa's conduct amounted to procedural unfairness as he did not allow him or his close advisors to make representations in response to the mediation panel.

Justice Norman Davis postponed the case overnight and will proceed in the same court on Wednesday, 18 October.

Meanwhile, outside the court, Thulani "Makhalesondela" Zulu said there is a third party involved in the case that is taking place.

"It's not right for the families to fight as they are biological families. They need to sit down and discuss the matter in a good way," he said.

Prince Thulani said the rightful King is Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

Prince Africa Zulu shared the same sentiments and highlighted the royal status of King Misuzulu's late mother, Queen Mantfombi, and her significant lobola paid by the Zulu nation.

King Misuzulu ascended to the throne following the death of his father, King Goodwill Zwelithini, in March 2021.
