MEMBERS of the EFF caused a major traffic disruption on Thursday morning, 1 December.
They blocked Gauteng’s busiest road, the N1 which connects Tshwane and Joburg.
They blocked the highway while marching to Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’s offices in Midrand, Joburg, to protest the Constitutional Court ruling that Chris Hani’s killer Janusz Walus be granted parole.
Speaking to Daily Sun, EFF provincial chairman Nkululeko Dunga said they wanted to cause disruption and not deliver any memorandum. He said they wanted to show Zondo that his judgment was like spitting on Hani’s grave.
“We are protesting in particular to what Zondo himself told Mrs Hani, that Walus has apologised,” he said.
Dunga said Zondo basically told her her husband’s killer was entitled to her forgiveness.
“This protest is in fact meant to inconvenience. We took a decision to go to one of the richest square metres in the country, near Sandton, and to bring it to standstill so they can see our frustration with the judgment,” he said. The black people who were stuck in traffic understood the pain we have been subjected to by this decision. We are not here to engage Zondo. We are here to say he must look into rescinding the judgment as per the submission made by the Hani family.”
Dunga said they’d be going to Zondo’s home as they knew where he lived. Zondo ruled Walus must be released on parole within 10 days.
