The Jacob Zuma parole saga is far from over.
This after the department of Correctional Services released a statement o Wednesday night, 23 November saying it will file for leave to appeal the Supreme Court of Appeal ruling that the former president was unlawfully release on medical parole.
"Having carefully studied the judgment, Correctional Services is convinced that another court may arrive at a different condition," said department spokeswoman Singabakho Nxumalo
He said the department was considering that decision on the basis of the interpretation of the Correctional Services Act and other relevant laws.
The SCA in Bloemfontein dismissed with costs Zuma’s appeal against the setting aside of his medical parole by the Pretoria High Court on Monday.
The court found that former Correctional Services Commissioner, Arthur Fraser, did not have the powers to grant Zuma medical parole and set aside the decision.
He was handed a 15-month jail sentence by the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) for contempt after he refused to testify at the Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture.
He only served two months of his sentence in the Estcourt Correctional Centre in KZN before he was released.
On Tuesday, the Jacob Zuma Foundation said Zuma has consulted his legal team to advise him of his legal options with the few weeks regarding the judgment.
