RESIDENTS of Waterloo are still in shock after a gruesome discovery.

The residents from this kasi, in the north of Durban, found the decomposing body of an unknown woman in a bedroom on Saturday, 4 June.

A resident told Daily Sun that during the week there was an awful smell coming from the house.

They informed Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) as well as the police. “The cops and Rusa officers came to the area. The door was opened and the woman was found dead inside the RDP. The awful smell was of her decomposing body,” said the resident.

She said they last saw the woman walking into her RDP house, where she lives alone, a week ago.

“We don’t know who she was and where she was from as she had arrived about a month ago to stay at the RDP.” She said maybe the woman got sick while she was sleeping and then died.

Rusa spokesman Prem Balram confirmed the woman’s decomposing body was found in her bedroom at her home on Hippo Road in Waterloo.

KZN police spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said an inquest docket was opened by the Verulam cops and that the circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
