WIDOWS, be aware of new lovers who come after your money!
This was revealed during a widows event in Bramley near Alexandra, Joburg on Saturday, 24 June.
The event was organised by Mangako Beauty Academy to inspire widows to seek help for any challenges they might face.
The academy offers training such as nail and beauty, caregiving courses and baking courses to women in Bramley, Fourways, Soweto, Tshwane and Rustenburg in the North West.
Event organiser and the acamedy founder, Charity Mamaz Tshuma, said that young and old widows shared their pain and struggles. She said some men targeted widows and acted like angels and a father figure for their children.
She said: “These men give widows the best love and support. But in the end they know they are out to get money out of the widows.
"But once they get what they want, the so-called new lovers disappear, leaving the women in limbo,” said Charity.
She said the new partners go after the widows' money and all the benefits, and sometimes leave them broke.
Charity said the financial difficulties was also a big challenges. “Widows are left with a burden when their husbands die. They can’t afford to pay children’s school fees and support their families. This lead to their children dropping out of school, causing more pain to the widows.”
She said some relatives from the husband's side tend to disown their daughters-in-law. “Widows need emotional support, especially in the first four months after losing their husbands. These women need counselling to ensure they cope and are able to move on.”

Grace Muriritirwa of Gospel Assembly Church in Yeoville in Joburg, said there is a lot of victimisation against widows at churches and in communities.
“There are men who come into a widow’s life in the name of love. But it turns out they are there to milk the widows’ money. Some are married men, but promise to marry the widows,” said Grace.
She said that some churches treated widows as outcasts.
“If a woman and husband held a position in the church, things change when the husband dies. Widows need love and support,” she said.
