FOUR security officers have been left with moderate injuries after a cash-in-transit heist took place on the N4 in Tshwane on Wednesday, 9 November.
Kyle van Reenen of Emer-G-Med said paramedics responded to the scene near Simon Vermooten Road only to find chaos.
“Multiple security vehicles lay strewn across the roadway with the cash van having been blown up by suspects. Four security officers sustained moderate injuries and were treated and stabilised on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” he said.
He said there were no fatalities reported.
“The South African Police Service was in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigation accordingly,” he said.
Police in Gauteng are searching for the suspects in connection with the robbery.
According to police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Netshiunda, it was reported that a cash delivery truck and its escort vehicle were driving along the N4 when they were allegedly attacked by suspects who were reportedly travelling in multiple vehicles.
“Both the escort vehicle and the cash truck collided with the suspects’ vehicles. The escort vehicle is reported to have overturned, and two security guards were injured in the process.
“The driver of the cash truck and his crew member also sustained injuries from the impact,” he said.
He said suspects allegedly robbed the security guards of their three firearms, a rifle and two pistols before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
“Police are appealing to anyone who might have information about the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the nearest police station or call CrimeStop on 08600 10111. Tip-offs can also be provided using the MySAPS app. Information received will be treated with strict confidentiality,” he said.
