Christmas carols were sung and the first baby to be born was celebrated around the hospital.

Parents at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital had received the best Christmas gift.

The hospital welcomed 8 Christmas babies by midday on Sunday, 25 December.

Operational Manager at Labour ward, Dimakatso Kgarabyae said five boys and three girls brought the Christmas spirit at the hospital on the day.

She said the mood was great.

“The Midwife is the first person to see the baby even before the mother. It is such an honour for us to deliver the babies. We feel so good and we greatly thank God for giving us those powers and wisdom we used to deliver the babies,” she said.

She said one baby is nursed in the unatal ICU and the other seven are healthy,” she said.

She said they gifted the mothers with bags that had new clothes for babies inside.

Kgarabyae said they were happy to have delivered the babies at their hospital.

“I thank the mother for coming to our hospital. It means when they are here, they trust us and that coming here they will go out with healthy babies,” she said.

One of the mothers of the bundle of joy, Lerato Monyela (24), from Itsoseng Mabopane Tshwane said her baby boy, Karabo, is blessing to be the first baby to be born at the hospital on Christmas Day.

“I didn’t expect he would be born today. I thought he was going to be born in January,” she said.

She said she was overwhelmed with happiness.

“I don’t even know what to say. I am so happy,” she said.
