GOGO Elizabeth Setshedi is a happy woman as she is finally a homeowner.
The 120-year-old gogo oversaw the handover of a house to in Slagboom Village outside Hammanskraal, north of Tshwane on Sunday 16 July, which was also her 120th birthday.
This after Bojanala Platinum District mayor, Matlakala Nondzaba, promised to build her a house during her 119th birthday party in 2022.
Gogo Elizabeth said she still cannot believe she is a home owner. “I had given up on the dream of owning a house,” she said.
She previously lived with her last born son in a mud structure prior to the municipality’s intervention. “Today, my dream has become a reality,” said gogo.
She said she wishes to live longer so she can take care of her house. “I am grateful to God for sending government to help me. I am extremely happy," she said.
She added that her last wish before she passes on is to meet President Cyril Ramaphosa. She said meeting Ramaphosa will make her happy. "I will die at peace when it’s my time," she said.
Gogo Elizabeth's last born son, Alex, expressed his gratitude for his mother’s beautiful house. “This is really a miracle and I am grateful,” he said.
Nondzaba said the need to build gogo a house was identified in 2022 during her 119th birthday party.

"We made a promise to handover the house on her birthday. This needed urgent construction and we managed to get Tharisa Mine to assist us. R500 000 was spent to complete the house and R20 000 was spent on the furniture.
"The fully furnished house has two bedrooms, a bathroom with flushing toilets, new television, sofas, washing machine and a borehole," she said.
Nondzaba said in addition, they will make efforts to provide a helper for gogo. “A female helper will be able to take care of her accordingly as she only lives with her son,” said Nondzaba.
