VUYISWA Ramokgopa promises to rebuild Gauteng and make it great again.

The Rise Mzansi Gauteng premier candidate told a small gathering at Joubert Park in the Joburg CBD, where she was officially introduced on Tuesday, 6 February, that Gauteng was in ICU and is about to collapse.

She said for the province to power the South African economy, Rise Mzansi will enable families to have access to quality infrastructure, dignified homes, public spaces and places of care for children and the elderly.

“It’s time for us to rise up as a people and change the wrong direction this province is headed. In 2024, we must vote for new leaders with new answers to lead our government,” said Vuyiswa.

She reminded members and residents that the task she set out won’t be easy.

“Some may call us dreamers. Some may say we don’t belong in the 'political space'. They say this because they know the impact we are already making in communities. We must rise to win Gauteng so that we get new leaders,” she said.

Vuyiswa pointed out that apartheid townships and labour dormitories must be reimagined and re-planned to become thriving micro economies with mixed industries that can provide employment for the millions who reside there.

She said:

"When Gauteng is healthy, South Africa is healthy."

She claimed that the ANC government does not care about how people constantly fear for the safety of their children who are pushed into a cycle of loitering, crime, drugs and depression because of the state of Mzansi.

Vuyiswa said government leaders don't care about the father from Zamimpilo informal settlement worrying about his grade 1 child still without a place in school on 6 February.

“It's time for us to rise as people of this country and change the wrong direction this county and this province is headed to. In 2024 we must vote for new leaders with answers to our challenges,” she said.

She said young and old people over 35 years find themselves unable to get government jobs. She said there was a need to embark on a mass re-skilling programme, focussing on technical and vocational skills as well as new industries.

Vuyiswa said her party will stop corruption and arrest its actors, fix government finances and spend responsibly.

She said they will make sure all our municipalities work, modernise education system and ensure all children in Gauteng were equipped with the skills and capabilities to compete in a global modern economy.

“It's time to deal with the apartheid spatial legacy of this province. We will only succeed as a province when every Gauteng resident has the choice to live within 15 minutes of their work, school, and health facilities, or at the very least is able to access affordable and reliable public transport to connect them to where they need to be. People must be able to live, work and play with ease in their communities,” she said.
