MZANSI is experiencing flooding, and residents from different villages in the Moretele Local Municipality are finding it hard to continue their daily lives due to high water volumes.
In the past three days, villagers from Mmotla, Mathibestad RDP section, and Maubane said they have pleaded with the municipality to assist as their houses are about to collapse.
One of the affected villagers from Maubane, Merriam Maphakela, said her children couldn’t go to school after everything became wet over the weekend.
She said the family of four was forced to move out of their house because of the water.
“Everything is wet, including school uniform. The municipality is aware of our situation, and we hope they'll assist us in channeling the water away from our houses. We're not the only ones affected, several houses were also affected,” she said.
Another villager from the Mathibestad RDP section, Simon Tladi, said the roads are in a bad state, and it’s a headache going around, especially for motorists.
Moretele Local Municipality spokesman, Mothupi Malebye confirmed that several routes were damaged.

Malebye said residents in Mmotla, Mathibestad RDP section, including Maubane, have approached the municipality for help to channel the water away from their houses.
He further said a local clinic at Kroomkuil had to be closed after the facility was affected by the heavy downpours.
“In some areas, schooling was also adversely affected following the collapse of a bridge as a result. So far, the cost of the destructive trail left behind by the rain is not yet known,” said Malebye.
He said the Moretele Municipality Disaster team will be on standby to respond to challenges caused by flooding.
Moretele Local Municipality, Mayor George Manyike, has appealed to the public to avoid crossing flooded waterways and low-water bridges at all costs.
