VEZUKHONO Secondary School ran short of 5% to hit a 100% matric pass rate.
The school from Etwatwa, Ekurhuleni, achieved 95% for the class of 2023 and has vowed to go above the 95% pass rate for the class of 2024.
On Friday, 16 February, the school celebrated its 2023 top achievers, including teachers and matrics.
School governing body (SGB) member Gogo Tshidi Nyembe danced during the awards ceremony and has been dubbed the face of Vezukhono Secondary School.
After receiving the results on Friday, 19 January, she posed in her school uniform.
Vezukhono Secondary School Principal Reuben Tsoka urged the class of 2024 to take over from their predecessors and go higher to achieve more.
Deputy principal Thenjisiwe Hlongwane spoke of their sacrifices to achieve the top results.

"Pupils had had to camp here in the school for three weeks. Others were coming from as far as Tembisa. Teachers had to 'cook' for them to ensure they understood the content, and we thank the staff for their efforts," she said.
Gauteng education district official Mongezi Boloshe said he was impressed with the results and encouraged this year's matrics to do even better.
Chriselda Lamola (18) and Justice Sibindi (18) are some of the top achievers.
Justice from Ivory Park said it was hard, and there was a time he wanted to give up.
He obtained three distinctions, while Chriselda achieved five.
