TAXI owner Ntshwedi Maloko (50) was shot at his house on Friday, 3 November, by unknown men while chilling at the gate with his friends.
He died at the hospital on Saturday, 4 November, leaving his family with many unanswered questions on why he was killed, as he was loved by everyone.
According to his sister, Deliwe Maloka, her brother was a man of peace who always encouraged people not to fight.
Maloka said on Friday evening at around 8pm, her brother called her to check if she was okay as he usually did. She said a few minutes later, she received a call again that her brother was being rushed to hospital.
Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said Vanderbijlpark police had opened murder and attempted murder cases.
"The victims were standing with two other men at the gate of the deceased's house in Vanderbijlpark when the suspects' vehicle, a Silver Datsun Go, drove past them. Suddenly an unknown male, armed with a firearm and wearing a white baseball cap as well as a face mask, blue jacket, knee-length Khaki shorts and black takkies, appeared on foot from the dark. He started firing shots in the direction of the victims as he was approaching them," Masondo said.

Masondo said that everyone ran for cover, but the taxi boss was followed into his yard by the suspect, who kept on shooting.
He said the suspect thereafter fled the scene. He got into the Silver Datsun Go that was parked down the street, and he and an unknown number of occupants sped off.
"The two men who were shot were rushed to a nearby medical care centre, where one of them was certified dead on arrival," Masondo said.
According to Masondo, the motive for the shooting cannot be confirmed at this stage, although it is suspected to be related to taxi violence.
"No arrests have been made so far, and police are searching for the suspects. A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened," said Masondo.
