A MAN accused of raping and impregnating his 14-year-old niece briefly appeared in court on Monday, 19 September.
Police spokesman Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the suspect (27), who appeared in the Bushbuckridge Magistrates Court in Mpumalanga, allegedly raped the girl on several occasions between June and August.
“It is said the uncle would sneak into her bedroom, rape her and then threaten her not to tell anyone about the ordeal,” said Mdhluli.
He said the girl’s grandmother received a call from her school on Friday 16 September, informing her that she was rushed to the clinic as she was not feeling well.

“The victim was later referred to a hospital where she was examined by a doctor, who confirmed her pregnancy,” he said.
The matter was reported to the police and the suspect was arrested in Bushbuckridge on Saturday 17 September.
The suspect’s lawyer, Time Machitele, argued that the state’s case was weak.
“The state only based their case on DNA results, which we believe will be negative,” said Machitele.
The matter was postponed to 26 September for a formal bail application.
Meanwhile in Mhluzi, a 63-year-old man allegedly raped his 18-year-old granddaughter.
Mdhluli said the girl was allegedly raped on several occasions between September 2015 and September 2022.
“It is alleged that the suspect threatened the victim not to tell anyone, including her mother.
“The girl finally broke her silence and the matter was reported to the police. The suspect was arrested and he is expected to appear in the Middleburg Magistrates Court soon,” said Mdhluli.
