A BOYFRIEND allegedly suspected that his girlfriend was cheating.

He then apparently demanded to go through her phone, but she refused.

The 25-year-old allegedly started hitting the woman with his fists and when she tried to leave, he stopped her and continued assaulting her.

The girlfriend allegedly reached out for a kitchen knife and stabbed the man once in the abdomen.

Captain Bernard Matimulane said the boyfriend was rushed to a clinic but later died.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday, 7 September, in Ivory Park extension 2, Gauteng, for allegedly murdering her live-in boyfriend.

Ivory Park Police Station commander Brigadier David Ngcobo has expressed shock at the death, which he said could have been avoided if people in relationships learnt to look for signs of a potential abuser.

“More often, victims tend to ignore these signs. Going through someone’s phone without their consent is one of the signs of iskhwele (jealousy),” he said.

Ngcobo said that it was advisable that when in such a situation, one should seek help as soon as possible to avoid tragedy.

The woman will appear in the Tembisa Magistrates Court soon, facing a murder charge.
