TWO horrible accidents that killed 11 people in the Western Cape have left motorists horrified.

The first accident happened on the R43 near Villiersdorp at about 5.30pm on Friday, 8 March and killed two adults and four kids who were travelling in their vehicle. The second one happened on the same night at around 11pm and claimed five lives.

A motorist who witnessed the accident believes that the victims were a family.

“It looked like a husband, wife and their four children, according to what people were saying at the scene. I was driving past but I had to stop and see what happened. It was a horrific view.

"Their car was damaged so badly that I couldn’t tell what type of a car it was,” said motorist Terence Geza (46).

Passengers from the other two vehicles were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries emanating from the accident.

According to MEC of Mobility in Western Cape Ricardo Mackenzie, the accident involved three vehicles.

“All six occupants of one of the vehicles, including four children, died on the scene. Two patients were transported to hospital in a serious condition, while a third person sustained minor injuries,” said Mackenzie.

The MEC said another accident involving a bus, sedan and a bakkie happened a few hours later at about 11.20pm on the N1 between Prince Albert and Laingsburg.

“Five people lost their lives, one person was seriously injured, and one person sustained minor injuries. None of the 39 passengers on the bus were hurt,” said Mackenzie. The MEC wished speedy recovery to those who are still in hospital and has also issued words of comfort to the families of the deceased.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to the loved ones of the eleven people who died in two separate road crashes in our province yesterday. I wish a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured,” Mackenzie said.
