THE two teenage friends were on their way to buy electricity.

They were passing the Multipurpose Park in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni on Tuesday, 16 January.

But something which they said they couldn't explain diverted them from their path.

They found themselves climbing rocks in the park.

Sibusiso Radebe (19) and Sfiso Lukhele (17) from Endulwini section in Tembisa heard a crying baby.

Miraculously, this cry led them to the baby boy hidden in the shrubs where nobody could have seen him.

"We found the baby covered in a thin blanket and the umbilical cord was still fresh to indicate it was born not so long ago," said Sibusiso.

"We took the baby and discovered it was a boy. He was cold because the place where he was placed was wet due to rainy weather," said Sfiso.

The two angels, who seemed to have been sent by force of nature to save the baby, didn't hesitate to help out.

They used the cash they were sent to buy electricity to catch a taxi and take the baby to the Tembisa Hospital.

While there, they explained to the nurses what happened.

Police were called, and they were showered with praises.

Captain Nelda Sekgobela of Ekurhuleni district police said Sergeant Pitsi Makgatho, who often deals with children's cases, attended to the matter.

"Police received a call from the hospital and swiftly rushed there to attend the case."

Captain Sekgobela said the newborn baby was admitted to hospital.

She said a case of child negligence was opened, and police are looking for the mother.

The SunHeroes saved the baby but didn't tell their families what they did.

Their families were shocked to learn for the first time from Daily Sun when SunTeam called to interview the teens for the work they did.

"We didn't see the need to tell our families. It was just something we felt it was right to do," said shy pupils from Tembisa High School.
