TWO police sergeants, a male and female aged 38 and 42 respectively have been arrested for allegedly stealing exhibits of stolen cow meat and defeating the ends of justice.
The sergeants, who are attached to the stock theft unit, were arrested in Polokwane, Limpopo on Friday, 22 December.
They were arrested by members of the provincial police anti-corruption unit following a tip-off of stolen cow meat from the stock theft unit storage in Polokwane.
Limpopo police spokesman, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said this came after the theft of dead cows, which occurred on Wednesday, 13 December.
The teams operationalised the information on Friday, 22 December and upon investigation, it was reported that the sergeants stole a carcass of a cow from the exhibit storage facility.
"They are facing two charges of theft and defeating the ends of justice. Police investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident of breaking into the facility," he said.

They are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 27 December.
Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe hailed the remarkable progress made by the members of the police.
"I applaud the team for rooting out corrupt elements within our ranks. We cannot allow members who are entrusted with the responsibility of protecting our society being on the wrong side of the law. Corruption is a setback towards creation of safer communities," she said.
Hadebe said while they are dealing with rampant stock theft in the province, the police officers saw it fit to steal the exhibit, thus defeating the ends of justice.
"The law must take its rightful course without fear or favour," said Hadebe.
